Friday Tapping Party - Duchesse De Bourgogne Flanders Red @ Jake's (Lincoln & Omaha)

This Friday will make you pucker! Both the Lincoln & Omaha Jake's will have a very special tapping of Duchesse De Bourgogne, a Flanders Red Ale from the Verhaeghe Brewery in Vichte, Belgium. This sour ale is loaded with dark fruit flavors of sour cherries and grapes, a hint of brown sugar and vanilla, and solid but palatable tartness throughout. A rarity on tap, this is a special treat.
Commercial description "Duchesee de Bourgogne is the traditional top fermented reddish-brown ale from the West-Flanders region of Belgium. This refined ale also known as "The Burgundies of Belgium" is a blend of 8 and 18 months old ales following careful maturation in oak casks. 100% natural and unpasteurized."

Plans to tap the New Belgium Prickly Passion Saison have been put on hold as the kegs did not make our delivery today.
So instead we will tap the Mikkeller Monk's Elixir. It is a heavy dark Belgian ale inspired by the Trappist monasteries of Rochefort and Westvleteren. The beer style, characterized by its high content of alcohol, distinguishes itself by its dominant yeast character, delicious malt background and balanced hop notes.

Modern Monks New Beer Releases!!
From Facebook
The following two beers will be released to the public for the first time on October 24th at the down town location of Misty's in Lincoln.
Be there or be square!
Wild Tripel- A sour ale, this tripel has a spicy black pepper aroma that carries into the flavor, with a chardonnay characteristic and finishing tart and malty. This beer was spontaneously fermented in an oak barrel which lends to the tart character and its name. 8% ABV
Barrel Aged Olde Ale- Aged over ten months in Templeton Rye Whiskey barrels; it has the aroma of ripe plum, candied cherries, vanilla and bourbon. This ale has a big malty flavor with hints of caramel, fig and pear; the vanilla and bourbon finish will slightly warm the palate and linger long after the swallow. 9% ABV

New Winter Seasonal From New Belgium at °Brix
°Brix just announced the arrival of New Belgium's newest winter seasonal, Snow Day. This will be replacing 2 Below in New Belgium's lineup. I must say I'm a bit disappointed that 2 Below has gone by the wayside, but hopefully my disappointment will be washed away by it's replacement.
From °Brix's facebook page:
Remember how much you enjoyed snow days as a kid? Why stop there!? New Belgium gives us a reason again by introducing their new winter seasonal Snow Day which replaces 2 Below in their lineup. It's a winter warmer style. It just came in last night, and it's so new we don't know much about it yet. Are you up to the adventure of a Snow Day?
Upstream Brewing Release Party (Predator Belgian Strong Golden Ale)
When: Thu, Oct 20 from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Where: Upstream Old Market, 514 South 11th Street, Omaha

Belgian Strong Golden Ales were originally developed in Belgium after WWII as a response to the growing popularity of Pilsner beers.
Belgian Ales represent the height of the brewers' art. Sophisticated brewing techniques, yeast blends and unique flavoring elements have elevated the beers of Belgium to the status enjoyed by wine in other countries.
Predator follows in this tradition by giving an alluring aroma; a dynamic complex of flavors, Belgian flair, Omaha fortitude, and a dusting of our special proprietary yeast blend gives this beer a palate of unusual depth.

Slow Elk at °Brix
You have to love the way Big Sky Brewing names their beers. Their latest seasonal, Slow Elk Oatmeal Stout, is now available at °Brix (and other good beer stores as well I'm sure).
From °Brix's facebook wall:
Here's a recent arrival from Big Sky Brewing in Montana: Slow Elk Oatmeal Stout. It has the usual hints of coffee and dark chocolate, but is muted enough to be a good entry point for someone just dipping their toe into stouts. Just $8.99 for the 6-pack.
New on Tap at the Library Pub
It's good beer Tuesday again at the Library and they've tapped a couple new beers just in time.
Just in time to make your plans for Good Beer Tuesday...enjoy $1 off all craft and import beers from 7 to close to enjoy these new arrivals at the Library Pub:
Another creative brew from the folks in Lincoln, Empyrean Black Pepper Porter is heavy on the black pepper. You get it right up front in the nose and it doesn't let up on the palate. The pepper makes an interesting counterpoint to the roasted malts in this porter. Interesting and different.
We now also have New Belgium Belgo Belgian IPA. While there is a slight malty presence, this is not to be confused with your typical Belgian IPA. It definitely has an American twist, spiked with the strong presence of citrus hops which dominate the palate. B+ from Beeradvocate.com.
SPECIAL THURSDAY TAPPING PARTY at Jake's (Lincoln & Omaha!)

This Thursday (10/20) at both the Omaha & Lincoln Jake's locations will be a very special tapping party for Empyrean Brewing Company's Beer Quest winning beer.
Beer Quest is a quarterly event which starts with 21 homebrewers going head to head in a private competition judged by certified beer judges, with the top 10 beers moving on to the Beer Quest public event. Brewers in this final round serve their beer and speak with the public about what processes and techniques they used to make their beer unique. The publics job is to try each one of the beers and rank the brewers in order of favorite. The winner of the public tasting is crowned the winning brewer, and is awarded the opportunity to brew the winning recipe on Empyrean's big brewery system.
Jim Anciaux and Bryon Belding, the champs of the recent Beer Quest event, are no strangers to the winners circle, with a combined 5 wins over the years. With the theme of the latest event being "X-Periment-Ale Ales", Jim and Bryon created a Belgian-style Witbier brewed with rhubarb. The outcome has all the wonderful creamy and citrus character one would expect, but with a pleasant tartness that the rhubarb imparts. Crisp and refreshing, this one is a real treat.
**LINCOLN LOCATION ONLY** Come on down and meet the brewers Jim and Bryon! Share a pint with the guys, and learn more about brewing with this unique ingredient.

Hibernation Ale Back on Shelves at °Brix
Great Divide's Hibernation Ale. Yep. I'm a fan. Just seeing this reminds me of how glad I am that Great Divide was able to continue distribution to our state!
From °Brix's facebook wall:
The arrival of chillier weather begs for a heavier beer. A cherished seasonal is back: Hibernation Ale from Great Divide is a thick, chewy higher ABV beer with big malt and hops flavors that will help you welcome the frosty nights of late fall. Rates an A- on Beeradvocate, and we agree.
