Modern Monks Oktoberfest at Misty's this coming Monday!

The Modern Monks are planning this years Oktoberfest party this coming Monday (8/27) at their downtown Lincoln brewery located in Misty's Steakhouse (200 N. 11th St.). They will be unveiling their seasonal Oktoberfest beer at 5:00, and everyone will be enjoying the live badass polka tunes of the Bolzen Beer Band out on the patio.

From the words of Brother David "Fall is my favorite time of year. The hot, humid dog days of summer are behind us and we get a little break between the lawnmower and the snow blower. Football aside what beckons most are the strong smooth lagers of fall led off by the Oktoberfest. Our version boasts a toasty malt character with a smooth finish that invites you to enjoy another glass. It's hopped enough so the hop heads won't feel deprived but not so much as to be out of balance."

Be sure to stop by this Monday for great beer and music!

News of the weird - KC Beerfest for sale??

Courtsey of the guys over at kcbeerblog.com.

Dear Friends,

For over 5 years, the KC Beerfest has been the most recognizable craft beer festival in the Kansas City area. Over 12,000 beer connoisseurs and first-timers have attended the KC Beerfest allowing them to sample hundreds of different types of craft brews from around the world. KC Beerfest has been a huge success and is viewed by many as the premier craft beer festival in Kansas City.

However, the missions of both benefiting agencies, the Kansas City Free Health Clinic and the AIDS Service Foundation of Greater Kansas City, are not being met by the KC Beerfest. Initially, leadership at both agencies felt their missions would be shared with the thousands of beer lovers who attended the festival. Unfortunately, this was not the case. Therefore, KC Beerfest will not be held this fall. However, we are seeking prospective buyers who would produce the KC Beerfest and take it to the next level.

We propose a $5,000 payment that would grant your organization ownership of the KC Beerfest, www.KCBeerfest.com, the KC Beerfest logo and all marketing related materials; contacts with distributors/brewers in the state of Kansas that have supplied the beer to the festival; access to an army of 150+ volunteers; remaining inventory of KC Beerfest sampling glasses, buss tubs, banners and other supplies; contacts with marketing/media partners; and the goodwill  of 5+ years of satisfying the taste buds of the KC craft beer community.

Should you have any questions or would like to discuss further, please feel free to call Kirk Isenhour at the Kansas City Free Health Clinic at (816) 777-2762 or Michael Lintecum at the AIDS Service Foundation at (913) 269-7960.

We look forward to hearing back from interested parties soon and thank everyone for your support of the KC Beerfest.
Sincerely,
Kirk Isenhour

This is extremely strange to me and who is going to buy this?  It doesn't make a lot of sense.  Anyone can start a festival and as long as they don't call it KC Beerfest they are fine.  Everything I have read or heard of this festival is it is a disaster so I am not sure what goodwill they are talking about.  It has ran out of beer on one occasion for sure.  I think if you don't want to do it any more, give it to someone else that can but don't try and sell it, that just shows what some festivals are in it for.  I want a festival that is in it for the beer and makes no bones about that fact.  What are your thoughts?

Great Nebraska Beer Fest Program - Awesome!

I am not going to post much here just this link to download the program for the festival this weekend.  It speaks for itself!!

Happy Birthday to us! We are 5 today!

Another year has passed and that means the blog is another year older.  To think that 5 years ago I started this thing is crazy to me.  What is even more crazy is where craft beer in this state was at back then and where it is today.  I don't think I would have expected to see near the breweries or breweries in the works in Nebraska that we are seeing today.  I would venture to guess that there are about as many breweries in the works as there were actual breweries 5 years ago, that is mind blowing.

The other thing that has changed is the access to great beer all over the state.  I remember having to drive to Omaha or Lincoln to get good craft beer back then now, even in Broken Bow, I have 3 locations that serve a solid lineup of craft beer and 2 of our restaurants in town have consistently had craft beer on at least one tap and sometimes multiple taps.  The access in the cities has changed too and changing more all the time with new tap houses and retail outlets it seems every month.  Things they are a changing...

With so much change happening in 5 years we would love to hear what you think the next 5 years will bring in craft beer in Nebraska?  We would also love to hear what you want us to do in the next 5 years with this blog.  We have some big plans but we may have missed some things too.  Please comment and let us know the answers to these two questions.

As always, thanks for reading and we look forward to doing this for many years to come thanks to the wonderful support we have received from you over the years.

Nate
