18 to drink?

So this topic seems to be gaining ground. I am going to guess that most people that are going to read this forum will probably agree that it needs to be lowered but I am interested to hear your thoughts. Here is an article on the side for lowering the drinking age. My main problem with the drinking age where it currently resides is that we ask our 18 year olds to vote, to serve our country and to go live on their own in many cases but we can't trust them to imbibe a beverage?

I think it is legitimate to say that a higher drinking age leads to more binge drinking as well. I don't think that lowering it will eliminate it but I do think that people over indulge when something has to be hidden to enjoy.

I also think that allowing 18 year old High School students to drink would be pushing it and I like the articles mention of a "learners permit." The license or permit would have restrictions and consquensces with it, such as revoction until 21 if arrested for DUI or procuring to a minor, I think this idea is a great compromise.

I know that I will be educating my son's along the way and show them how to enjoy a beverage in moderation.
