Spilker Ales closing in Cortland, announce final tours

When:  Thurs/Fri. Apr 6-7th, 3-8pm, Sat. Apr. 8th, 12-5pm
Where:  Spilker Ales, 300 W. 4th St., Cortland, NE

From their email release---

Greetings from Spilker Ales, we've got some BIG changes happening.

The good news is that Hopaluia will live on, but produced in a new location. We've moving production of Hopaluia draft beer to Thunderhead Brewing in Axtell, NE thanks to a great team effort.

The other news is that April 6th, 7th, & 8th will be your last chance to celebrate Spilker Ales'  Frankenbrewery experience in Cortland. After 21 years of operation, we'll be ceasing production in Cortland and we'll be giving the brewery a great farewell with an open house, tours, sampling, collectibles, and food vendors on that weekend in April.

You won't want to miss the keg load of fun here in Cortland on those three days in April. Those will be the last days you can buy bottles of our Technique DPA. The last sips of Sonar JAM or Sonar Tropic Grunge ever sampled and the last brewery tours will surely be the best! Besides Technique DPA, Sonar Botanic Punch, and Hopaluia, we'll also have bottles of Apricot Jackpot for sale in 22oz bottles. No limits on any case buys, we'll have enough. Apricot Jackpot has a big stone fruit aroma and flavor with a lightly hopped background.

While Hopaluia keg beer will stay in production, the rest of our lineup will be phased out of distribution sometime this fall. Eventually Sonar, Hopaluia bottles, and Technique will come to an end in late 2017. The first batch of Hopaluia kegs brewed with our added teammates tastes like a piece of liquid art! We've brought a lot of wild and wacky techniques to the new home of Hopaluia and now there are plans for the beer to live on in cans within a year.

From Sam Spilker, owner/brewmaster---

We are extremely grateful to everyone who has supported us throughout the years. I know many of you went above and beyond with your help! In addition, we look forward to keeping Hopaluia, the "Gospel of Hops", flowing that so many of you love. Special thanks to the support of my wife Lisa over the years as well as Lonnie Mulder for getting the dirty jobs done when it counted. The relationships we've made are priceless and will never be forgotten. Though its likely that brewing won't be my main occupation in the future, there still may be a very unique venture or two for Spilker Ales in the years to come. Please stay in touch!

See you in Cortland soon and don't forget to bring your friends and family to get the last tour of a pioneering brewery in Nebraska. Cheers! Sam Spilker---

Raise a Glass with Farnam House

As I'm sure you know by now, Farnam House recently won a silver medal at the World Beer Cup for the Bier de Garde. So, they've decided to celebrate tomorrow (June 2nd at 5pm) by cutting the price of the Bier de Garde in half until the keg blows. At 6pm, they'll have a big "Chalice Hoist" for everyone to cheer the victory.

And of course they couldn't just leave it at that. There will be a special menu available and they'll be tapping their 100th batch, a 10% ABV Belgian Golden Strong.

Avery Brewing Returns to Nebraska!

Colorado craft brewery brings flagship favorites and new releases

From their press release-----

After 21 years of piecing together 6-car-garages in an industrial alley in Boulder, founder and CEO Adam Avery was more than ready to build his dream brewery. A year ago, Avery opened the doors of his new 67,000 sq. ft., $30 million brewery filled with the best brewing equipment available, including four new 850 hl fermentation tanks that nearly doubled the brewery's capacity.

Now, Avery is ready to send their beers back to Nebraska! Beginning on March 21st, fans will be able to find favorite flagships on draft and in bottle shops, including Avery IPA and White Rascal Belgian-Style White Ale, a medal winner at the 2015 Great American Beer Festival. They'll also see the familiar face of The Maharaja Imperial IPA, plus bombers of Avery's newly released Twenty Three Anniversary, a 100% Brettanomyces fermented dark farmhouse ale.

Avery's expanded capacity has allowed them to create many new beers, including Liliko'i Kepolo, a tart Belgian witbier with passion fruit, and Raja, a double IPA featuring hops with dank tropical notes. Both will be available in Nebraska on draft and in cans.

Avery is especially excited to sending along some of their biggest and rarest beers to the Cornhusker State. Uncle Jacob's Stout (17.1% ABV) which is aged in Bourbon barrels, exemplifies the brewery's prowess over brewing massive beers while using fresh spirits barrels as a flavor component unto themselves. Nebraskans will also find a sprinkling of Old Perseverance, the newest edition to the lineup in experimental one-offs in Avery's Barrel-Aged Series.

To celebrate their return, Avery is inviting fans to join them at a series of area events:

  • 3/22: Inglenook Tap Takeover (Lincoln)
  • 3/22: Crescent Moon Pint Night (Omaha)
  • 3/23: Moran's Liquor Works Tap Takeover (Lincoln)
  • 3/23: Longwell's Pint Night (Lincoln)
  • 3/23: Lot 2 Beer Dinner (Omaha)
  • 3/24: Cunningham's Lunch Tap Takeover (Omaha)
  • 3/24: The Happy Raven Tap Party (Lincoln)
  • 3/24: Blatt West Tap Takeover (Omaha)
  • 3/24: Library Pub Tap Takeover (Omaha)
  • 3/25: Yia Yia's Tap Takeover (Lincoln)
  • 3/25: Jake's Sports Bar Tap Takeover (Blair)

Avery will be distributed throughout the state by Johnson Brothers of Nebraska.

St. Patty's Day at Farnam House

Sounds like Farnam House is putting a fun St. Patty's Day together. Their Taft stout is always good, and quite approprate for the occasion, but they've also brewed up an "Irish Red Lager" to put on tap on Thursday. Looks yummy!
Leprechauns got into the brewery at Farnam House and decided to make a batch a beer. The brewers have decided to call it Barrett's Irish Red Lager and it will be on tap for St. Patrick's Day along with the Taft Stout on nitro and Berliner Weisse (add woodruff syrup to make it green!). Chef Jeff Collins is taking the opportunity to make a full Irish spread for the day to go with the beer.

Barrel-Aged Reserve Series Release Party at Kinkaider

Kinkaider is releasing their first barrel-aged beers this Friday night. They're throwing a party for the occasion with live music by Jenna Hall from 8 to 11 pm. See below for more details about the night and the beer.
Kinkaider Reserve Series is Here!!

We are very excited to share the first of our barrel aged beer series Kinkaider Reserve. These beers are brewed specific to both complement and accentuate both the beer brewed and the flavor profile of what was once in the barrel. These beers are truly something special and are meant to be shared with friends & family. They are 100% bottle conditioned and one of a kind. We will limit these two releases to just 2 bottles of each style to each individual. We will start pre-selling tickets to reserve your bottle(s)starting in the tap room at our new year's eve party. First come , first serve. But first let me introduce you to the beers.

Kinkaider Reserve Russian Imperial Stout
Aged for 9 months in Wyoming Whiskey Bourbon Barrels.
ABV 11.5%
The Russian Imperial Stout pours pitch black with an exceptional bourbon nose. Complex yet extremely easy to drink. You will taste a light oaky flavor from the barrel along with roasted coffee, dark chocolate, slight vanilla, caramel & a strong bourbon flavor with none of the alcohol burn of whiskey.

This is a special occasion beer that gets better with age. We could not be more pleased with how this beer turned out and can't wait to share one with you.
Russian Imperial Stout Aged 9 Months in Wyoming Whiskey Bourbon Barrels $19.99/bottle Limit 2

Kinkaider Reserve Farmhouse Saison Ale
Aged in Chardonnay Barrels for 4 Months

Belgian Beer Blitz at Farnam House Brewing Company

This weekend Farnam House Brewing Company is throwing a Belgian beer blitz. On Saturday at 2 pm they will have special releases of four unique Belgian-style ales. A Belgian Single, a Dubbel, a 2014 Tripel Reserve, and a Quadruple. Also, there will specialty cheese pairings hand-selected by chef Jeff Collins for each beer, fresh Belgian-style mussels, and other Belgian delicacies. Sounds absolutely fantastic to me!
