We will have a special tapping of 5 rare and unusual beers at Max and Joe's on Friday April 9 at 5:00 p.m.
First, we are proud to have the first of four beers brewed to celebrate Sierra Nevada’s 30th Anniversary, an Imperial Stout at 9.2% ABV. This beer is a collaboration between Ken Grossman, the president and founder of Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. and Fritz Maytag, the owner of San Francisco’s Anchor Brewing Co. appropriately named Fritz and Ken’s Ale. As a nod to the robust black ales that seduced both of them in their early years, they brewed this Pioneers Stout, a rich, roasted ale.
The second and third are from Schmaltz Brewing Co, HeBrew Bittersweet Lenny’s R. I.P.A. A rye based double IPA coming in at 10% ABV. It is brewed with an obscene amount of malts and hops. With 8 different malts and 10 different hop varieties it’s no wonder Beer Advocate says "Rich...smooth...powerful. Makes your heart skip a beat."
Next, HeBrew’s Origin Pomegranate Ale an Imperial Amber Ale brewed with luscious pomegranate juice. 8% ABV.
The fourth is from Great Divide Brewing Co. out of Denver CO. Espresso Oak Aged Yeti. A generous infusion of espresso adds yet another layer of complexity to this beer, combining with the vanilla oak character, intense roasty maltiness and bold hop profile to create a whole new breed of mythical creature. 9.5% ABV.
The fifth is a Belgian seasonal release from Brouwerij Het Anker, Gouden Carolus Easter Beer. They brew this Belgian Strong Dark Ale every year for Easter, however the recipe changes each year. At 10% ABV this complex ale has dark malt and fruit flavors, yet is still refreshingly well balanced.
