Dram Shop Law or How personal responsibility is further escaping our grasps.

Yep kiddos, another hit on taken responsibility for your actions has reared it's ugly head in the State chamber again.  It appears that someone wants to blame the server/bar owner for a person getting behind the wheel drunk.  This has dizzying repercussions for bar owners and the state.

So if you own a bar or liquor store even, you better be prepared for excessively high insurance rates, if you will even be able to get liquor liability.  As an insurance agent now, I can tell you it will be VERY hard to even get the coverage and if you can, it will be very expensive.  This will only accomplish making attorneys rich and will not solve the problem.

The tragedy in this whole thing is when a drunk driver kills an innocent individual in their path.  That is not fair, but blaming the bar owner isn't fair either, he didn't pour the drink down the drunks throat.  He didn't force him to have another one.  Since when is a server, making minimum wage, able to tell when someone has reached the legal limit and shouldn't be driving?  I have been around some incredible drunks that you would never know that they were gone.  The point being is that the person has chosen to drink too much and get in his car, it is his responsibility alone.

Please contact your senator and stop this nonsense from progressing.  It is one of those liquor laws that makes sense in Nebraska, lets keep it that way.
