The Modern Monks are releasing what they are saying is a first in a soon to be long line of high end, superior quality beer from their barrel aging program.  Everyone does a Russian Imperial Stout, but one thing the Monks wanted to focus on is making sure this was not another thin representation of the style that have been out on the market in the past.  Accomplishing the level of mouth feel while shooting for a beer in the 10% ABV is not easy, but they have done it!

They are particularly proud to say that while it does take some extra time and nurturing to bring barrel aged beer to maturity, they refuse to have consumers paying some of the ridiculous prices that have been seen as of late for these barrel aged beers.

“When you have a labor of love that turns out this fantastic we want to share it with the public, especially those in our own market.  What we don't want to do however is to charge 6 dollars or more for 5 ounces of beer.  If we did that we would be doing our core consumer base, and the beer, a supreme injustice.” ~Josh Ames Modern Monks

“Deep chocolate fudge brownie and French pressed coffee with well-balanced notes of Bourbon, oak and vanilla.  Dark chocolate carries long into finish.  Sinfully decadent and delicious.” ~Jason McLaughlin BJCP National Judge

"The public" is very appreciative. I know first hand of some local brewers that charge an arm and a leg and then some for their "special brews". Yes they cost more to make, but in pricing so high they price themselves out of this market and thereby emphasize on selling in markets that have higher disposal incomes (not in Nebraska by the way). Thanks again, the Nebraska local yokals appreciate you guys and I am looking forward to trying your barrel aged brews.

Yes, it is great that the Monks are serving this at a reasonable price.

I just want to defend other brewery's and their pricing structure. It goes with out saying, I believe, that quality beer should demand a premium price, there are plenty of breweries around the country that charge similar prices for harder to make quality beer. Every business operates differently for different reasons and the supply and demand curves never lie. The reasons prices and releases happen for different breweries could be completely different. The breweries in this state are ALL very good to the locals, be it homebrewers or just craft drinkers. They all do it differently but they are all very good.

Fault could be found in how any business operates but to bite the hand that feeds you and the industry in Nebraska is silly. Those "special brews" that are sold in markets outside our state to great acclaim only drive people to check out Nebraska. It will also only drive more selection in this state. I will add that they are also available locally as well and sell out pretty quickly.

Thanks for your opinion, but I hope you realize now how much can happen from a Nebraska brewery expanding it's market in other states. It is a win win for everyone.
