Jake's Friday Tapping Parties/Lincoln- Beer Quest Mochochino Milk Stout/Omaha- Sierra Nevada Ovila Quad
LINCOLN JAKE'S: This Friday will be a tapping party for the draft version of last year's Empyrean Beer Quest winning beer. Last winter I had the chance to brew my winning recipe with Empyrean brewery on their big 15 barrel system. The beer is a Mochachino Milk Stout, brewed with cacao nibs, Cultiva free-trade coffee, vanilla beans, and black strap molasses. Milk Stout (aka Sweet Stout) is a sweeter version of a dry stout due to the use of lactose sugar, which is unfermentable to yeast. The beer turned out fantastic, and should really shine with the year of age.
Tapping time:
5:00 pm Jake's Lincoln (14th & P St.)
OMAHA JAKES: Many have heard about the new Belgian Abbey inspired line up from Sierra Nevada. Brewed in collaboration with the monks at the Abbey of New Clairvaux in Vina, California (a few miles North of Sierra Nevada's home in Chico) three classic Belgian-style ales will be released with the seasons, including a Dubbel, Saison, and a Quad. A portion of the proceeds from the sales will go to the restoration of the historic Ovila chapter house building on the grounds of the Abbey of New Clairvaux. The story of how William Randolph Hearst originally had the 12th century medieval Spanish house dismantled and shipped to San Fransisco is fascinating. Plenty more can be found on this project at www.sacredstones.org.
This Friday, Jake's Omaha will have a tapping party for the Sierra Nevada Ovila Quad. Commercial description "Ovila Abbey Quad is rich and complex with layers of flavor including notes of intense dark fruits, and caramel-like maltiness. Rich and complex, this ale should be shared among friends in the true spirit of the season."
Tapping time:
5:30 pm Jake's Omaha (62nd & Maple)
