Blue Blood Special Edition SORC can

This is pretty cool for me because SORC is ran in Arnold which is only about 30 minutes from my house, so seeing a brewing company producing a can for the event is awesome!!  Nice work Blue Blood!!

I am guessing that the car owner and drivers(Lyle and Nick Ekberg) are friends of the brewer, but either way this is pretty cool.

SORC stands for Sandhills Open Road Challenge and has been going on now since 2001.  For a couple days they shut down some winding sandhills roads and have a road race.  Here is a clip from their website.

The first Sandhills Open Road Challenge was held in Arnold, Nebraska, in August 2001. Thirty-four enthusiastic drivers came from 17 states to participate in the first event of its kind ever held in Nebraska. The event now sells out its grid of 120 each year on the first day of registration with scores eagerly anticipating being selected from the events waiting list. Thousands of spectators from Custer County and surrounding communities throng to Arnold each year to watch the shootout, parade, road race, and the crowd favorite--the burnout contest. Drivers from more than 40 states and Canada enjoy unrivaled hospitality from local inhabitants who open their homes to lodge upwards of half of all drivers and navigators. As one driver proclaimed loudly at the 2008 SORC barbeque, "Nobody does it like Arnold!"
It really is a spectacular event and I look forward to seeing all the cool cars come pouring up Hwy 2 in Broken Bow.

So good luck Lyle and Nick, I will be listening for you on the radio and I hope to find a can or two of the Blue Blood special label floating around Broken Bow and Custer County in the coming days.

Thanks for the post, Nate. Lyle is the brewer's father-in-law, Nick a brother-in-law. It's a terrific event that gives back to the community of Arnold that the Ekberg's have been involved in every year. Cheers!!
