First smell/sip: not overwhelmed. Will fill two shot glasses to let them warm. Sort of a bitter caramel at first, and not a lot of depth or robustness. 12% ABV is pretty well hidden. Wish the cognac tasted yummy, it is vaguely woody. Wish the Belgian Quad was more detectable over the cognac. Getting a bit more bite with time, flavor still woody caramel. Getting a bit of peppery spice. Warming more, the Quad nature is FINALLY coming out, with a bit of maltiness. Wish there were more carbonation. Been hesitant to say this, but...SALTY! That's not good. A nice alcohol cooling in the nasal passages is a saving grace. Warmed shot glass: better, not salty depending on how fast/slow you swallow it. Sorry, not a good quad or barrel aged beer. Dave K, Beer Snob of Bellevue
