Re-Born Brewing Club in Omaha

I had the opportunity to speak with the chairman (Dan Genrich) of a homebrew club in Omaha a few weeks ago. This club was recently re-born, and is for the most part, unknown. The club is associated with the German American Society in Omaha. They have some pretty interesting history, and from the sounds of it, will be helping the German American Society recruit new and youthful members.

A few of their members recently placed at the River City Roundup homebrew contest. My hope is other homebrew clubs in Nebraska will start to collaborate with them (see their link on our home page under "Homebrew Links" for contact information...search the AHA for clubs in Nebraska). Here is the information I have collected so far on them:

Name of club: Brauer Unterstützungs Verein (Brewers' Support Association)
Dates: Founded – 1896, Died out – 1960s, Rejuvenated – 2008
Contact: Chairman, Dan Genrich
Breweries: At one time, the membership included brewers from Storz, Metz, Falstaff, and Krug breweries
Meeting: 2nd Wednesday of the month at 7:00 p.m.
Website: None
Facebook: None

Some more information on the brew club.

Established by the breweries in town and their owners in August of 1896, it was meant to provide a resource for sharing information as well as a type of insurance company for brewery workers to help cover the costs of health care and funerals.
