Trader Joe's Beer

I stopped into Trader Joe's in Omaha on opening night (Fri, Nov 12).  Talk about busy.  There were lines at each cashier station 20-30 people deep.  Needless to say (although I will), I didn't bother purchasing any beer.

I did however, stop in there today over lunch to look over the beer selection.  There's not really much to choose from, except for their Mission Street beer.  There's an IPA, Pale Ale, Hefeweizen, and maybe one other.  I picked up the IPA for $6.99.  Pretty reasonable price for a quality craft beer.

These beer are produced by Firestone Walker Brewing Company.  They won several awards at GABF this year, including a gold for the Mission Street Pale Ale.

I am excited to try the Mission St. Pale Ale. Essentialy it is Firestone Walker's Pale 31 without the 20% blend of Double Barrel Ale. Incidentally, the Pale 31 finished 2nd behind the Mission St. Pale Ale at GABF. I wonder is the Mission St. IPA is Firestone's Union Jack? Trader Joe's was crazy busy on Friday when I stopped by to check it out. I Couldn't even find a place to park!

Big fan of Mission St! Thrilled at how well they did at GABF.

I don't think the Mission St. IPA is the union jack because the abv is about %1 less. It does taste similar, maybe same recipe but dialed back in malt and hops. Either way one of the best IPAs for the money.

Agree with TwoSkis- the IPA is very similar to Union Jack but not quite the same. And mighty tasty. Stopped in saturday morning, and the all of the Pale Ale was gone. There was also a Brown Ale available.
